HATSTAND NELLY

September 08
Hatstand Nelly finalised in Hair Magazine Awards 2008 for Best Regional Salon. Lorraine Says ‘It’s fantastic to be one of only 4 finalists out of the whole of the UK , and the only Scottish finalist in Best Regional Salon.’ Lorraine and Lainey attended the awards ceremony in the swanky Haymarket Hotel, Piccadilly and the category was won by the great Andrew Collinge. Lainey says ‘We are so chuffed to have got this far. We had a great evening and got to meet some of our hairdressing heroes!’

Salon International is finally here. Lorraine and seven of the team travel to London to support our Art Director Lindsay in her Grande Finale. After six months of training in presenting, choosing models and doing photo shoots with the Tigi Inspirational Youth Team, Lindsay will be on stage presenting her models to an audience of 2000 people. Lindsay says ‘I have learned so much - I never imagined I would ever present my work on stage at Salon International, It was so much fun – I loved it.’ All of the team had a cracking weekend. Hair Now Magazine features Hatstand Nelly as one of their exclusive ‘Heavenly Hairdressers’.

The Hatstand Nelly team ‘Raced For Life’ on a bleak and windy Aberdeen day, raising £600 for Breast Cancer Research. Thanks to all who kindly donated.

Hatstand Nelly helped Kaimhill Community Centre raise funds for their youth group by doing the hair for their fashion show. Fifteen teenage models took the salon by storm on Friday 13th June. Mad catwalk styles and much fun was had by all.

The team helped Kaimhill Community Centre raise funds by creating some funky catwalk do’s for their models in their Fashion Show.

Lorraine nominated Lindsay for a place on the team of Tigi’s Inspirational Youth and we were blown away when she was chosen as one of the lucky twelve from all over the UK . Tigi take a team of under 25 year olds who think they have what it takes to learn the skills required to present at our trade event of the year – Salon International – held at Excel, Docklands, London.

Akos Bodi, Tigi International Creative Director comes from London to for a Hatstand Nelly workshop. All of the team had fun and were inspired learning new stuff.

The British Hairdressing Business Awards have chosen Hatstand Nelly as finalists again! For the second year running we have finalised in the Business Newcomer category. The salon is now 2 years old so it’s our final try for this category. Thanks to all our clients for the support over the last two years. The awards ceremony will be in London in September so watch this space for results, we’ll keep you posted.

The team of Assistants held an in-salon show to a small audience of friends and family to show them what they have learned during their time at Hatstand Nelly. The team of young budding stylists organised the entire event on their own including the hair, the clothes, make up and music and also choreographed and compared their own work.

July 06
Hatstand Nelly raised £1700 for the Scottish Society of Autism by skydiving from 10,000 feet over St Andrews . Denise, Greig, Lisa and Lorraine took part in the tandem jump and there were big cheesey grins all round. Lorraine says ‘What an adrenaline rush, I can see how people get hooked on this!’ The whole team contributed their time to open the salon for an extra day with all proceeds going to the charity.

In July 06 Hatstand Nelly held their first in-salon Presentation Competition. The stylists presented their look of summer 2006 to a panel of judges, one of whom was Ruth Hunsley, the editor of our favourite trade magazine, the Hairdressers Journal. All the competitors did extremely well and the winner, Lindsay, has earned herself a place on a Hairdressers Journal photo shoot. Lorraine and Lindsay are off to London for the special event, the results of which will be published in the HJ. Ask in-salon for a preview of the published work. Hairdressing and Beauty Magazine published a feature on Hatstand Nelly.

February 2006
Matrix launched their new advanced formula of colour products – Lorraine attended the two day colour launch in London. Matrix Creative Team including Terry Longden (from the Salon) presented their models. Lorraine says ‘the new colours are so fantastic – we all got the chance to play with it on models too.’

Salon Business Magazine published a feature on Hatstand Nelly based on their entry to the British Hairdressing Business Awards.

January 2006
Achieved Investor In People status. Working towards this has helped us to grow as a company, its encouraged the individuals within the team to develop so that we can constantly improve our standards.

November 2005

Lorraine attended the Creative Head – Most Wanted Awards in London with Julie Collier, the President of the Fellowship of Hairdressers. Lorraine says ‘it was a great day out, I met loads of my hairdressing idols!’

Louise attended a High Impact Cutting Course.
The whole team enjoyed an in-salon Presentation Skills training course with one of our industry's experts.

October 2005

Lorraine visited London to spend a day with Charles Worthington. She helped with makeovers for 'This Morning' at the TV studios, learned a heap of stuff about TV and picked Charles' brains about business stuff! Lorraine says 'He was so comfortable with the cameras and was also happy to share business info and advice with me - I had a fantastic day'.

Lisa continued her training with a Precision Cut and Colour Course.

September 2005

The team enjoyed a jolly in London to attend the British Hairdressing Business Awards after finalising in the Business Newcomer category. We all had a great night out, the evening was presented by Phil Jupitus, and amongst the guests were all our heros and heroines of hairdressing. Being chosen as one of the top five new businesses in Britain was a real buzz.

Since opening Hatstand Nelly, Lorraine has played an active part in the ongoing training of her stylists & trainees. This has always been a core part of Lorraine’s long-term plans for the salon.

July 2005

Nominated as finalist in the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2005 in the category of ‘Independent Salon-Business Newcomer’ – these are the Oscars of the hairdressing world!

Hatstand Nelly’s first birthday was celebrated with our trainees putting on a 1st year Anniversary Hair Show to an audience of staff & family.

They presented the skills & techniques they have learned at Hatstand Nelly over the last year, organising the entire event themselves, from arranging hair, clothes & make-up, creating a complete individual look for each model.

May 2005
Jan, Clare & Lorraine attended a GHD Catwalk & Editorial course examining & trying out the most current trends & looks in Edinburgh. This was a lot of fun – they can’t wait to put on their own show!

Hatstand Nelly put Aberdeen on the map with a double page New Salon feature in the Hairdressers’ Journal (the stylists’ Bible!). Ask for a look next time you’re in the salon.

Julie attended a Toni & Guy 1 week Contemporary Classics course at their Academy in London.

October 2004
Lorraine travelled to London to learn the Yuko Permanent Straightening System, bringing back the knowledge to train others – Clare is our Yuko specialist. Many clients who loathe their curls swear by Yuko as its permanent smoothing products help straighten out & control unruly hair, leaving it glossy, smooth and so much more manageable day to day.

October 2004
Leigh & Julie also visited London to learn the good old-fashioned art of the classic Gent’s Wet Shave at the Wahl Training Academy. We now offer this as a special treat for guys as they all seem to hate shaving!

Lorraine needed some help and opened Hatstand Nelly. The premises used to be a wallpaper shop and was in need of substantial refurbishment, after 4 months of work the salon was ready to rock'n'roll!
